The Boys

Well I haven't posted since Austin's birth (for obvious reasons), and there is no catching up so I'll just start with what is going on now.

August...it has been quite a month so far.

Austin will be 6 months in a little over a week (how is that even possible?). He has brought so much joy to our lives as he constantly grows and changes. Today he sat on his own for the first time, and he rolls every which way making baby blankets useless. He is trying so hard to crawl and does sort of an inchworm movement right now. He's got quite a reach too, making mealtimes challenging and entertaining when he's sitting on someone's lap. Austin loves to "talk" and has mastered the high pitch squeal and every other strange noise you can imagine. He is quite ticklish too. He's had so many more experiences being the second child. We've been hiking several times and have gone to several museums and everywhere in between. Luckily he's pretty easy to take places. Right now he dislikes being contained in his car seat or baby carrier and makes sure you know about it.

Austin has such a fun little personality. He's feisty and curious, but so silly and sweet. He sleeps by himself in his room now and typically only wakes up once or not at all during the night (can't complain there). He loves to read with Daddy before bed. He adores Nate and all the silly things he does.

Nate...our "big" boy. Oh that kid is just growing up so fast. This year he is officially a Kindergartner, but we are continuing to homeschool. We have built some great friendships with some other homeschool families. We are lucky to have found several other families with kids (boys and girls) Nate's age. This coming year we will continue with our nature activities and Lego Club twice a month. We are doing a co-op with our close group of friends this year as well. We stay busy with activities outside the house, but it all fits in with our unschooling approach. I never thought we would be unschoolers (look up unschooling), but it has worked so well for us this past year that we will continue this year. We are so proud of all the learning Nate has done this past year, but most of all I love that he loves to learn. We do math as part of our bedtime reading as Nate's request, and we are currently working our way through the 3rd Harry Potter book mainly as I nurse Austin.

This summer we have been having a great time learning all about dinosaurs. Eddie and I have been re-educated when it comes to dinosaurs and have really enjoyed learning alongside Nate. We have also been attending a free monthly build event at the Lego store where Nate gets to build a small Lego set in the store. We have a bit of a Lego obsession around here.

Keeping up with my two boys is fun, but it keeps me on my toes for sure.
