Remembering Robyn

It's been 3 weeks now since our sweet girl went to doggie heaven. The house just doesn't feel the same without her, but we are adjusting. I wanted to do a blog about Robyn, but this is the first opportunity I've had to do any blogging lately. We had Robyn for almost 7 years and that time was too short. As much as we miss her, we know she is okay where she is. She with Daisy, Abu and Cody doing all the things she always loved. She was like one of our kids, and we miss her a lot. Some people may think it's silly to write a blog like this about a dog, but Robyn wasn't just a dog to us.

Here are some of my favorite memories of Robyn:
  • We adopted Robyn in April 2005 so Phantom would have a buddy. We adopted her almost exactly a month after we adopted Phantom so they've always been together with us.

Best pals right away
Robyn had a squeaker obsession and would squeak her ball or toy really fast or rip apart a toy at top speed to get the plastic squeaker out.

  •  Robyn was the craziest, most reckless dog which often resulted in little injuries. She would run and play like a crazy girl and just pass out exhausted afterwards. Moderation was not in her vocabulary.
  • Robyn ate a whole bag of our traditional peanut butter kiss cookies at Christmas one year.

  • Robyn liked to boss Phantom around when he was barking at something he shouldn't like the vacuum or blow dryer.
  • When we were living at our first house she somehow jumped on top of the kitchen counter. We were there, but have no idea how she managed that.
  • Robyn loved hiking and was Eddie's best hiking buddy. She was always on the lookout for anything alive in the bushes, which she learned from her pal Daisy.

  • She was always so sweet and tolerant of Nate even when he climbed right on top of her.
  • She loved to sleep upside down with her legs sticking out in every direction like a dead cockroach.
  • Some of her nicknames were Bear and Peep, since when she squeaked she sounded like a bird. We also called her Silkworm sometimes because her fur was so silky.
  • She loved to play in the sprinklers at the park.
  • As crazy as Robyn was, she was also a sleeper. She loved the couch and a pillow was always nice too.
  • She was always right there where ever we were. When we got Nate ready for bed she loved sleeping behind the rocking chair in his room.
  • Robyn was the sweetest, most sensitive dog (like Abu). We could have asked for a better dog.

Robyn always loved going in the car becauase it usually meant she was going somewhere to run around.

I don't know if Nate will really remember Robyn when he's older, but he loved her. He still talks about her here and there, but at least he's still young enough that he doesn't really understand. Yesterday Nate told us "Nano misses Robyn." Phantom seems to be doing fine without her, but he's definitely a little needier lately. We've been giving him lots of extra attention when we can. I don't know if we'll have another dog while Phantom is still with us. He might not put up with another dog. We will see.

Curious George

Last Saturday my mom and I took Nate to the Lied Discovery Museum to see the new Curious George Exhibit. Nate had fun with one minor meltdown after he squeezed through a gap in 2 walls into an exhibit that was behind a fence. Luckily I got him out without having to climb over the fence myself, but he kept wanting to go back in there resulting in some crying and throwing himself around. Right now at least one tantrum within a 3 hour time span is to be expected.

The exhibit Nate got into and was not happy to leave.

These steps were inside a rocket ship that had a slide at the top, but Nate wasn't too sure about the spiraling steps and never made it all the way up. It was not made for adults so I couldn't go up with him. Maybe next time.

Nate's favorite part of the Curious George exhibit was the elevator.

We got to meet Curious George right before we left.
