The Farm and a Smile

We took a quick walk over to The Farm tonight since they had their pumpkins out and were staying open later in the evening than usual. Nate always has a good time. We will miss The Farm when we move, but I'm sure we'll find other fun places to visit.

Bulldozer the pig got to come out and eat tonight. Nate had fun petting him.

SOmehow I convinced Nate that looking at the camera was fun so I actually got a few pictures of him facing forward and smiling. Hopefully we can keep this up.

Nate and I had a good day trip to St. George to visit family before our move. We had a great time visiting.

Nate, Nate, Nate the Great

Another long overdue post about what Nate has been up to these days. Our last few weekends have been quite busy. We've been fitting in some fun activities between running errands.

Nate has quite a creative brain when it comes to a lot of things like bandaids. After scraping his lip at the playground Nate doctored himself up. I'm sorry to say that Nate loves these Strawberry Shortcake bandaids we have because they is a cat and a dog on some of them. He chooses them over Batman. Oh well. It's funny.

A new tree house exhibit opened at the Lied Discovery Museum and our fmaily pass was about to expire so I took Nate to check it out last Saturday. Nate spent a good chunk of time in the grocery store this time around and got his first tattoo. Then we spent most of our time upstairs at the tree house exhibit. Nate always has a good time at the museum. I'm excited to see what changes they make when the new one opens by the Smith Center.

Looking at a skunk.

Jumping on buttons that made animal sounds.

Running over the bridge for the millionth time.

The pumkin patch at the Gilcrease Orchard (we can see it from our house) opened last weekend. Nate has been talking about pumpkins for at least a month now so we had to go. Nate and I went on Sunday morning before a trip down to work at my school. Nate enjoyed walking through the pumpkin patch expect that rocks and things kept getting stuck in his shoes. It took us a little while to find a smaller pumpkin that was not rotten or eaten by bugs or birds. Nate was very good at spotting the bad ones that we didn't want. When we checked out I bought Nate a little container of apple cider made at the orchard. He loved that.

We took our annual trip to the Renaissance Fair. Nate's sole goal in going today was to ride the horse like he did last year. He liked it so much that he wanted to go again. He was very particular about riding the black horse named Abe this time instead of the white horse he rode last year. He is very particular about certain things at times. He was not afraid at all. They asked if he was going to ride alone, but I don't think he would have been able to hold on the whole time by himself or he would have decided to get off mid-ride. That would have been a long fall.

I still cannot seem to get Nate to look at the camera or smile. I hope someday he will come around. He's such a busy, crazy little guy. Well, he's not so little anymore. So many people think he is already 3 or even 4 because he's so tall and can express himself so well. Of course with how well he talks he won't tell anyone his name or age. Who knows why. He sure doesn't have a problem talking to people. This was a very busy weekend so I think next weekend we will take it easy and stay closer to home.

One Tough Mudder

Eddie has been training for Tough Mudder for months now. Tough Mudder sounded insane to me, but he was determined. Tough Mudder is about 10 miles long or so and has 20 obstacles. Every Tough Mudder race is slightly different depending on the location. We drove up to Beatty, Nevada (about 2 hours North of us on the 95) early this morning. Eddie talked a few of his friends into signing up with him so Matt and his wife, Misty, Russ and his friend Chris piled into our van at 6:30 this morning.

Misty and I got spectator passes so we could walk along the course and take pictures when we could find the guys. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

A picture together before it started.

Just before jumping the wall to start

They named themselves Team Deadbeat and at the last minute got orange shirts and wrote the name on the back so we could find them. Orange was a popular color.

Arctic Enema aka the ice bath. Obstacle #4 and hard to get pictures of because they were up so high. You can just barely see Eddie climbing in.

Matt and Eddie (in the back) coming out and freezing cold.

There was a good chunk of time where the guys were running and doing a few obstacles that we couldn't get to very easily. Misty and I waited and kept watch to see if we could spot them running across a section of the trail. They stopped for a picture before continuing on where we caught up with them and were able to get good pictures of some of the obstacles.

Dirty Ballerina

Waiting to start the Electric Eel. The yellow ropes shocked them as they went under.

The Funky Monkey was basically monkey bars that went up to a peak and then down again. A lot of other people struggled with it, but check out the last half of Eddie's turn in the video.

Human Gecko, none of the Deadbeats made it across. This was a tough one.

The Mud Mile: Eddie did not like this one and the stink was awful. I think the mud was more like cowpie soup since we were on a ranch and evidence of the cows was everywhere.

The guys though this was a 10 mile course, but I guess they were misinformed.

This obstacle was one that Eddie talked about a lot. I was impressed that all 4 of the Deadbeats made it up the first time.

Electroshock Therapy and the last obstacle leading to the finish line. As far as we could tell and from what we heard no one got shocked on this one. It seems that they were having issues and it was shut off.

All done and very muddy. Some tired, but happy Tough Mudders.

Cleaned up and hanging out.
Tough Mudder in training.
Eddie had a great time and is not too banged up. He is planning on doing it again next year. I had a lot of fun spectating too. I do not have any plans to join Eddie in doing Tough Mudder next year. It would probably kill me. Maybe I can try something shorter first, but that would require me to actually get off my lazy butt and do some real exercise. :) There will be professional photos available at some point on the website as well.  Congrats to all the Tough Mudders that made it through this weekend.
