Catching Up

The 3 1/2 weeks since I started back to school have been a blur in some ways and also creeping by as slowly as possible. I've been working non-stop at work and at home. This year almost feels like my 1st year of teaching again even though I've taught 4th 4 other times. So many things to remake and figure out, I feel like I'm always one step behind. It will get better though as the year goes on. The first weeks are just so busy. I have 30 4th graders in my class. I am an inclusion teacher, which means I have Special Education students in my class. There is a Spec. Ed. teacher that comes in twice a day and my 5 Spec. Ed kids go to the resource room several times during the day. It's a bit hectic and overwhelming having the extra responsibility and I am learning as I go. I don't feel very human right now, more like a zombie most of the time, but hopefully the human side of me will return as the year goes on and I don't need to stay up nearly every night working after Nate goes to bed.

Eddie is working at the R Desk at Zappos on the 4am shift, so he is a zombie as well. Luckily Nate brings out the human side in both of us. Eddie is still training for the Tough Mudder race that is coming up on October 6th in Beatty, Nevada. It's a 10 mile obstacle course race for crazy people. He's really looking forward to it.

Nate and I stopped by The Farm a few weekends ago. Nate was not afraid the of the animals at all. He feed the goats and chicken by himself.

 

Last weekend, my mom, her friend Tammy, and I went to see Wicked at the Smith Center (a new performing arts center downtown). I'd heard people rave about Wicked and that it was a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, but that is all I really knew. Before the show we ate at the Chart House at the Golden Nugget. The Smith Center was gorgeous, and we were spoiled with the front row in box seats. The play was incredible. Every bit of it from the singing and acting to the set. It was an awesome night.

 

 

Nate developed a love for Halloween last year. He doesn't care about Trick or Treating or candy. He loves the decorations. Ever since last Halloween he's had an eye for pumpkins and candles. Lately he's been asking about the pumpkins at The Farm and Gilcrease Orchard everytime we drive by. To give Nate something to look forward to at our anual craft fair visit I told Nate he could look for a pumpkin or some Halloween decorations for his room. We came home with 2 bats that play music. One plays "Ding, dong the witch is dead..." which is funny since we saw Wicked the night before. Both bats, Barney (pictured) and Bubbles (which sounds more like Bobo when Nate says it), are hanging in Nate's room.

 

He also got a toll painted jack o'lantern from a booth I buy from every year. I had already bought something for myself and we came back to the booth to look at the Halloween stuff again. I gave Nate my debit card and the pumpkin to hand to the man who was working there. I don't know if he remembered me or though Nate was so darn cute, but he gave Nate the $8 pumpkin for free. I thought that was so nice. So Nate has his room already decorated for Halloween. I'm sure more decorations will make their way into his room once I decorate the house. Nate has also decided that he would like to dress up as a bat for Halloween. We'll see if that idea sticks.

 

 

 

Eddie had his 33rd birthday on Monday. We went to dinner as a family on Sunday night and had birthday cheesecake on Monday. Nate loves candles so he had to help Eddie blow it out twice.
