4th of July

Even though it's only been a few weeks it seems like this day was ages ago since we've been so busy since then. We really didn't have any firm plans until the afternoon of the 4th. They don't sell fireworks in firework stands like they do in Las Vegas, which makes sense but it was still strange to us. We figured we catch fireworks somewhere around town after dinner. Eddie discovered that there was a patriotic band concert and then firework show at a park downtown by the Truckee River that evening so we decided to go. It was part of the month-long Artown festivities.

It was a lot of fun even though Nate was really tired. The weather was perfect even though we'd had an early afternoon thunderstorm. Nate loved the music. First it was a band that did Big Band type music. Then the Reno Municipal Band played patriotic songs leading up the a very short, but good enough firework show. This was Nate's first experience with the big fireworks up close.

A shirt we made a few days before.

A self portrait. Nate loves taking pictures right now.

Days and events like these are part of the reason why we love Reno. 4th of July in Vegas was always so hot, and I don't recall many free (or paid) events that weren't really crowded and unfortunately, filled with people who'd had too much to drink. It is refreshing.
