January Recap

I told myself that this year I was going to try to blog once a month even if all I do is post pictures and no write anything. Well the month is almost over and I'm struggling to find time to sit and do this. We'll see what I can accomplish in half and hour before I need to start my day.

Austin turned 11 months old on Sunday. This past month has been incredibly fun watching him grow and change constantly. He started crawling on his hands and knees at the end of December and is now cruising pretty fast, only going back to army crawling on occasion. He started clapping with his hands, figured out how to get into a sitting position, and can get down from a standing position safely now. He babbles a ton and says things that sound like words here and there, but it's hard to know yet if hes saying those things intentionally. We are starting to do some baby sign language and he will sometimes say "more" by clapping his hands.

We have slowly been working Nate into reading by doing different word activities. He has finally shown interest in actually trying to read some easy books after getting a set of easy readers for Christmas with a favorite character from our math series called Life of Fred. He is picking up more words everyday and starting to read whole books now with very little help. I love watching him read. Nate has also been doing basketball on Fridays for PE this month and riding his scooter every chance he gets. He is learning to play chess now that we have a chess board. We are also studying planets for our Co-op and he is doing a presentation on Mars next week.

I am up to my usual craziness and adding more to my plate that I can probably handle. I have organized a larger Lego Club for homeschoolers that will meet once a month in a room at the library. It starts in February and I am really excited about it. I also got the official confirmation that I am taking my TCRG, or Irish dance teacher, exam in Phoenix this September. I have a lot to prepare still before then so I have stepped up my studying quite a bit. If you are curious about what I have to do in my exam go here TCRG Exam Syllabus Tonight I am going to see Riverdance at the Smith Center with our dance school. It will be fun as long as I don't worry too much about leaving Austin for the first time at bedtime. :)

February is going to be quite a busy month, but hopefully I can manage to post something. Until then...
